Beyond the Camp (BTC) is a U.S.-based nonprofit dedicated to uplifting refugee children in East Africa through education, essential care, and evangelization. By partnering with local African leaders and mobilizing U.S. volunteers and donors, we create lasting, community-driven impact.
Headquartered in Appleton, Wisconsin and founded by Egide Nimubona, a native of Burundi, we are a grassroots organization fueled by purpose, integrity, and the generosity of supporters. Our mission unites global and local efforts to help children not just survive — but thrive.
Beyond the Camp transforms lives in Uganda’s Nakivale Refugee Camp. What began as a tent school with children sitting on dirt floors is now a fully equipped building with electricity, plumbing, and furniture—thanks to generous families like yours. BTC provides uniforms, supplies, and two daily meals, so children can focus on learning and strengthening their Catholic faith. Families helped build the school and plant crops, gaining income and food. Your support breaks the cycle of poverty and brings lasting hope to refugee children and their communities.
Continued support is needed to finish the chapel and other structures in Uganda and begin building a school, chapel, and convent in Mahama Refugee Camp in Rwanda.
Every refugee child deserves the chance to learn and thrive. Thank you!
