The Summer Collection continues to be an essential source of income for us on the parish level. As generous as parishioners have been when it comes to structural maintenance projects such as the stained glass windows, we still are continually unable to meet our ordinary expenses. We are facing a deficit of about $100K for this current fiscal year and we are looking at a budget that is projecting a similar deficit. For this reason, the more we might be able to exceed the challenge of a minimum goal of $35K for this year’s Summer Collection, it will mean the difference between making a large dent in the parish debt or just make a small ding.
This year, the collection will take place the weekends of July 28th, August 4th, and August 11th. Parishioners will again be asked to use either the white “all purpose” envelopes that are included in the monthly supply of envelopes or the envelopes that will be provided at the doors of church. On the three weekends just mentioned, we will have a second collection which will go towards this much needed fund raising effort. Parishioners will be invited to consider how much they might be able to contribute and either include their entire donation in one weekend or to spread it out over the course of the three weekends.
This year, every dollar that each parishioner is able to contribute will count for double with the challenge to have the first $35K matched by this generous parishioner. Can we do this? I am sure that we can. Do we need to do this? YES!!! Otherwise we all know the risks involved when maintenance on our homes—spiritual and otherwise—gets deferred year after year and debts continue to pile up. Let us step up to this challenge and be a blessing once again for all who will be spiritually uplifted by the beauty of our church.
Thank you and may God bless you always!
