Description

The Mental Wellness Ministry of the Archdiocese of Baltimore is dedicated to accompanying those who suffer from mental illness or those who love or care for someone who does. Through an Archdiocesan focus and parish-based ministries, the Catholic community shares the love of Christ by offering hope, healing, support, and compassion.

Now in its fifth year, the ministry continues to grow in significant ways. More and more parishes are launching their own ministries from the Sanctuary of Hope at St. Katharine Drexel in Frederick to the Mental Health Ministry at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Essex – and many places in between. The coming years hold the potential for the Church to be known as the place for people to turn for spiritual accompaniment on their mental wellness journey. We are following the centuries-old efforts of the faithful in establishing hospitals, social service programs, and humanitarian aid in direct response to the call by Jesus Christ to meet the needs of the suffering.

The power of connectiveness and an open recognition of the mental health challenges that are a part of life allow us to confront the isolation, loneliness and lack of hope that is all too present in our society today. Together, in our parish and Catholic school communities, we can help our neighbors find healing and seek comfort in the love only Christ can provide.
