Through its mission and vision, The Good Shepherd Catholic Montessori (GSCM) School exemplifies the true spirit of faith, learning, and community each and every day. Your financial gift to our school helps provide the following:
Faith Formation:
GSCM incorporates the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, a religious formation approach for children ages 3 to 12, originating in 1954 through the work of Biblical scholar Dr. Sofia Cavalletti and Montessori educator Gianna Gobbi. After 50 years of working with children all over the world these women found that whatever their culture, children respond in the same way to certain elements of the Christian message. This experience orients the child to a global sense of connection to the entire human family as citizens of the world called to universal holiness.
Erdkinder Model:
The Montessori Erdkinder model empowers adolescents with the skills to take responsibility for their pursuits and build skills for work in the world. This has a very real effect on their fellow students, Montessori guides, home and community. Lessons about economics, environmental sciences and domestic arts are acquired through hands-on work, reading and community discussion and by enriching interactions with art, music and nature.
Multi-Age Classrooms:
All Montessori classroom are multi-age, spanning 3-year cycles. Children can build confidence working in diverse groups. This sharing of different skillsets and literacy, as well as the interaction with others, enables the child to model respect and function throughout life in an organized society.
