The number of students designated as homeless in District 211 and District 15 continues to be among the highest of all the school districts in Cook County outside of Chicago, and may grow even worse as eviction/foreclosure protections are removed. In addition to PHS and Fremd, we’ve been told that North Campus, also in Palatine and home to Academy-North and Alternative Learning Academy, also has a half dozen students in this category, who have not benefited from this effort in the past. Despite the pandemic, the school districts work tirelessly to provide services in light of the challenges these students face.
Once again, St Theresa is joining with many of the other churches in Palatine to collect gift cards to enable these students to share in some of the holiday joy that most of us take for granted. Monetary donations will be used to purchase small denomination gift cards ($25 and under) to stores that they frequent, such as Wal-mart, Target, Aldi, McDonald’s, Subway or Wendy’s. We will then combine these gift cards with those collected by the other churches, and gift bags the include the cards and personal hygiene products will be put together to be distributed to the students by the school social workers at PHS and Fremd.
Thank you for assisting these students at a particularly challenging time in their lives.
