Description

The Frances Y. and Joseph E. Wiley Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by their children to honor Frances Sumiko Yoshida Wiley and Joseph Earl Wiley, revered members of the Hyde Park Community and St. Thomas the Apostle Parish for over 60 years.  Frances cared fiercely not only for her own children, but for all of the students at STA.  St. Thomas youth were the beneficiaries of numerous enrichment programs for art music and crafts thanks to Mrs. Wiley’s efforts.  She also shared her gifts and talents with the school by designing and sewing costumes for the annual St. Thomas Players musical and creating exquisite quilts for auction at fundraisers.  Joseph served as a church usher for many years, staying late to count the Sunday collections and talk theology with Fr. Fitzgerald when he was the pastor of STA.  He also took Holy Communion to those unable to attend Mass.

Both Frances and Joe deeply valued the quality, Christ-centered education provided by St. Thomas.  All eight of their children attended and graduated from St. Thomas the Apostle School.  Donations to the fund will be used to assist families experiencing economic hardship or who are in need of emergency financial assistance.  Those who make a tax deductible gift to St. Thomas the Apostle School through the Frances Y. and Joseph E. Wiley Scholarship Fund will continue to promote their legacy of love for the school and its children.
